Arrival & Transfer

For entering and leaving the country, as well as for the entire duration of your stay you need a valid passport (obligatory!) if not defined otherwise in the Federal Law, in similar Interstate Agreements or according to international conventions conform to the usual practice.

Also visitors from a Schengen Country who travel to another Schengen Country need a valid travel document (obligatory!). For EEA citizens traveling to other EEA member countries at least an ID card is required.

Since 19 July 2013, citizens from a third country need a valid travel document for entering Austria (or the Schengen Area in general), which is valid at least three more month from the date of departure from the Schengen Area. Additionally, the issue date of the travel document must be within the last ten years.

As stipulated on 19 July 2013, travelers from a third country, who enter Austria and plan to stay here up to three month, must have a travel document which is valid at least six more month.
